So you've made the decision to postpone your 2020 wedding, but you're now looking at a totally different season.
I have been asked by brides:
"How do I make my Spring wedding work in Autumn?"
My wedding is in a new season and I don't know how to change things?
What details should I add or take away.
How can I tweak the details to fit the new season without a huge costs on top of what we already have planned?
I totally get where you are coming from. So let's talk details for moving a Spring/Summer 2020 wedding to those slightly chillier Autumn/Winter months.
Cosy Vibes
So it's going to be colder than you had originally planned. But that doesn't have to be a downside. Why not get the hygge vibes going and make it cosy , warm and all about everyone coming together. Nothing beats hygge!
Ways in which you could do this would be to incorporate blankets. If there is an outdoor area, you could place these outside for guests. Or even have them as favour for each guest on their chairs? Other options would be adding heaters or fire pits for the evening. If guests may want a little fresh air, or if you have smokers amongst your guests, then adding something like a heater can be a big win. This will be an additional costs, but you may decide to not include other outdoor elements during the day, so this could be the alternative? Just adding more candles and thinking about your lighting can also give the day and evening a stunning vibe that has a fantastic warm atmosphere.
Attire
So when it comes to the gents, they should be ok. But if for example you have chosen a strapless dress or perhaps sleeveless and backless, you may now be worried about the cold. Firstly if the majority of your wedding day is indoors, you shouldn't have to worry, providing your venue has heating! If it doesn't, look into options. But If there are elements where you will be travelling outdoors or outside for a bit, then you could consider adding sleeves if possible or perhaps looking into a cover up. Maybe a statement bridal cape or simple elegant shawl. There are plenty of options that can look beautiful and become a statement. But once indoors your dress can still do the talking!
Consider warmer options for your bridesmaids. If you have already purchased their dresses, then look at cover ups. If you have yet to purchase them, then you may want to consider a longer sleeve or perhaps a darker shade than you were originally thinking?
Logistics
When it comes to moving your Spring wedding to Autumn or Winter, you will need to consider your logistics. Were you planning on having your drinks reception luton the lawn? If so you will need likely to move this inside. this will of course effect the logistics of the day. Ideally there is a separate space to where the wedding breakfast is being hosted. Go through the details of the day and consider the logistics and how they may be effected or need to be tweaked to accommodate the change in season.
Seasonal
Palette
This is possibly the biggest question I've had so far. How do I make my Spring Palette work in Autumn / Winter? I know a lot of brides are a little worried here, but I have a few suggestions that may help!
Can you look at incorporating slightly darker shades of your pastel palette. They will compliment your current choice and the darker tones will pull it into a more autumnal, winter vibe.
When it comes to your flowers, they will obviously need to be in season, so again adding some slightly darker tones will add the warmth for the season, fit with the hygge vibe and will really compliment any pastels you have already committed to.
How about adding a darker lipstick to your makeup, to give it a slightly more autumnal look.
If you have already committed to a palette and have bought pieces to go with that, just by adding one or two colours in a darker shade that compliment your chosen palette, will bring the whole design into the style of the colder months, without loosing the original colours. Just warming it up a touch.
Seasonality
Considering seasonality is crucial. You will sadly not be able to get the Spring blooms you had chosen is you are now getting married in the colder months. however work with your florist. Trust them. They will be able to find suitable alternatives to fit your budget and design. Warm the tones up with what will be in season then and see if there is anything available that matches what you had originally planned and merge them if possible. they will guide you.
Another area that will be effected because of the season, is of course your food. You may perhaps opt to change your menu from a light Sala starter, to something morning warming? Your caterers again will work with you and advice you of what is available, in season and what they can offer at the same price point.
