2023 & 2024 Wedding Trends

Let's talk wedding trends for 2023 and 2024! The reason I've added 2024 is because some of you have mostly likely already booked your 2024 wedding date and looking at designs for it now.

So let's dive in to what I think will be big wedding trends for 2023 and will move into 2024.

How Trends Work

So we've had a bit of a delay with trends over the last couple of years and what I mean by that is, trends that were big for 2020 and 2021 we're still seeing now and still seeing in 2023 and that's because of, yes you guessed it, the dreaded C word (COVID).

The delay the pandemic has had is that, the couples planning their weddings in 2019/2020 have probably only just had their wedding so they were planning their wedding when different trends were 'big' trends.

The thing with weddings is that they are usually 12-18 months in the making so any inspiration for your wedding you have at the start of the process will then be seen a year down the line, hence why trends now won't really be since until 2024.

Remember you don't have to follow trends, my moto is you do you so if these trends don't work with your personalities then thats fine! So let's jump into what trends I think will be big over the next 2 years.

Colour

I talked about Colour being a big trend in 2022 and I'm only just seeing it start to come into weddings and I'm here for it!

The big colour I'm seeing coming through are the oranges, not only has this colour come into interiors and fashion quite a lot, it's now coming into weddings! We're even using it as one of our couples key colours for their wedding design this year. I love the burnt and rusty oranges coming into design as well as the peach tones matched with contrasting colours such as bright blue, my god it's beautiful. If you want to go for the bright oranges then clash it with bright pink - it really is a vibe!

Displays

I'm seeing more and more displays at weddings and even when I'm designing a couples wedding I'm trying to think how I can incorporate more displays or different ways to use displays.

Now, what do I mean by displays... so things like table plan displays, not just having a table plan on a piece of card on an easel but seeing more extravagant designs and ideas, such as escort cards or piled up crates with foliage and flowers surrounding it, just creating something a bit more!

We're also seeing more photobooth backdrop displays being created and made rather than just getting a photobooth company in with a brick wall backdrop for example. You could create a backdrop display for your ceremony which could even be repurposed for your photobooth backdrop or placed behind you at dinner.

E-vites

Now these aren't a new thing but I'm seeing more and more couples opt for e-vites instead of physical invitations and do you know what, I'm here for it! I think it is the most cost effective and simple way of getting your information out to guests, building the excitement and tracking rsvp's. It's easier for your guests and easier for you so it's a win win!

If you've got some oldies and don't think they'll know how an e-vite works then of course send them a physical one!

Fashion

I have three different fashion trends that I'm seeing coming into weddings and they are...

Bridesmaids dresses - we are seeing a lot more of the mis-matched bridesmaids dresses and I love it, I have even done a video on it so go check that out!

Go for the mis-matched trend if you want your girls in different shades, the same colour but different styles, to feel empowered, to choose a dress that fits their skin tone and to fit their body type. Wouldn't you rather have your best friends feel amazing in a dress that they love rather than something they're not too sure on.

Floral Bridesmaids dresses - yes you read that correctly, bridesmaids dresses with floral patterns on, it's an early trend so I think we'll see this over the next 18 months really start to flourish! We're used to seeing bridesmaids in a block colour so it's really lovely and refreshing to see them in something a little more exciting.

Bridal Outfit Change - the final fashion trends we're seeing is when the bride changes out of her wedding dress into something different for the evening! We're seeing this more and more frequently on weddings and I love it! Some couples are deciding to spend less on their attire and using more high-street brands in order to have that surprise moment of an outfit change for the evening! Or you can have accessories that are added/removed from your dress to change the look at different points of the day, for example one of our brides had a big overskirt on for the ceremony and then took it off for the wedding breakfast, it completely transformed her look!

Disco Balls

I am seeing disco balls pop up left, right and centre! I love seeing them crop up, we even did a shoot with disco ball galour! I think disco balls used to have a 'tacky' stereotype but now they are coming back into design with class, sophistication, glamour and of course the fun factor!

70's Inspired

Funnily enough we're seeing a lot of 70's inspired themes coming up and that was what my shoot was inspired by that I did last year! See how trends take about a year to come into play. We're seeing the 70's colour palette of mustard and orange filtering into designs and little nods to the era popping in here and there for little touches, such as wallpaper backdrops, fonts on the stationery, roller skates and of course disco balls.

Black

I know what you're thinking, black isn't for weddings it's for funerals but no no no my friends it is becoming so cool! If you're going urban in style there are a lot of black metals coming through and it's possibly one of my favourite design choices at the moment. We've used it in a few weddings over the last couple of years and it's just becoming more and more frequent. We've used it on ceremony backdrops, for table plan displays, for hanging table decor and for candle holders.

Black doesn't have to look harsh, you can soften black with different textures and colours but it just adds a slightly cool urban vibe.

Pops of Colour

Coming back to colour, we are seeing more and more pops of colour coming through the design with splashes of bright and vibrant colours rather than the traditional pale pinks, white and foliage.

I love and I'm embracing couples wanting to go for something a bit different and including clashes of colour here there and everywhere.

Candles

Not really a trend as such but we're seeing more and more rules and restrictions in terms of open flames on candles and that they must have a casing or covering. It's mainly more down to venue restrictions and rules and having to protect tablecloths from wax but I do have to say they look really cool. The glass votives are also making a bit of a come back, we saw they were very popular about 5/6 years ago, either filling them with thick pillar candles or floating candles and water.

Simple Stationery

Stationery is going down the clean and simple route, we're seeing a lot of white card with black ink with elegant and simple fonts. Just keeping it beautiful and classic. Don't get me wrong I love a bespoke design for stationery but sometimes simple can be better and it really can go with everything and be affordable for all budgets.

Outdoor Ceremonies

It's not new but it's just becoming more and more popular and I love seeing outdoor ceremonies. I'm so down for couples breaking traditions and creating new ones and outdoor ceremonies just seem to give you that freedom.

I know the UK can be a bit hit and miss with the weather but there's always an indoor plan b option just in case!

Neon Signs & Champagne Towers

Again these are not a new trend but they are growing and growing in popularity and they are here to stay I feel! They fit in so well with the disco balls, the 70's themes and the party vibes that everyone wants for the evening reception. They're only going to get bigger and better!

Final trend is having a champagne (or prosecco) tower! A super fun moment and a great photo opportunity! I mean if Kate Moss can have one at her wedding then why the hell can't you!

So there you have it, 16 wedding trends that we are seeing carry through into 2023 and 2024. They are growing in popularity and I'm super excited to start seeing them come up in all our weddings we have currently booked for the next two years!

Don't forget if you need help with any design or styling ideas for your wedding we offer a bespoke design consultation service combined with our on the day coordination so that you can get the most out of your ideas, we'll help bring them to life!

Happy planning!
