Inspiration for styling your Christmas table

December is almost upon us and most people have started if not finished their Christmas shopping. Have you started to consider what you will cook on the big day and even how it will be presented?

Styling your dinner table at Christmas creates a real focal point for the main event.... Christmas lunch! There are so many styles that fit with the winter theme and lots of beautiful accessory options out there to style your table.

When styling your tablescape, there are a few different elements to consider. You want to make sure that your colour and theme run throughout, so that it all ties in nicely. We recently had the pleasure of doing a little Christmas set up at a local pub to us and decided on a traditional festive theme.

Christmas is my favourite time of year. I get the bug in about September and get increasingly more festive (more likely irritating) over the next few months. Below is our traditional Christmas set up...

Table Linen and napkins

For this tablescape we decided to show off the tables themselves. I'm a sucker for a rustic wooden table as it has character. However we did use some rich red napkins, folded traditionally, but on the slim side to add a touch of colour.

Tableware

Deciding on your tableware may mean that you are bringing out your Christmas set, that you dust of once a year or consider hiring some beautiful pieces to add a touch of luxe. We have used some gorgeous clear charger plates, with gold trim glasses to match and some stunning scarlet water glasses. The look is finished with glistening gold cutlery. This colour combination is so classic for Christmas time.

Centrepieces

We have kept this table centrepiece fairly simple, with an abundance of seasonal foliage careful adorned around some gold tea light holders. To add a pop of colour we added a seasonal pomegranate. Seasonal fruit on our tablescape's is quickly becoming our signature. For the foliage we used a mix of fir, ivy and holly to create this look.

Finishing Touches

To finalise the scene, why not add some handwritten place names. We have beautiful place names in calligraphy with white ribbon tucked neatly under the napkins. We have also tied one stick of cinnamon and a small sprig of rosemary to each place setting. This creates a festive scent as soon as your guests sit down. It's just these small details that add to the whole experience.
